Since its launch, Cities Skylines has gone above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to taking the city building crown from EA. Choosing to avoid the many bad decisions that the Sim City reboot chose to wear so proudly, Cities Skylines created a world builder that gamers wanted, no extra frills that nobody asked for, just a really decent city building experience.
Perhaps the biggest reason for success with Colossal Orders game was the choice to completely and openly back mods. The developers don't mind if you develop mods or simply download and enjoy them, they're just happy that you're playing their game and creating your own stories from something that was initialy plucked from their own imaginations.
You can find and download maps that other people have created, or entire cities that their extremely proud of. You can even choose to download a simple road layout that someone thought was neat enough to share around. Should these simple downloads not be enough, theres much more complex game tweaks available to enjoy from an autosave tool and automatic bulldozing option to a complete reworking of how you place and build roads. Phew!
All of this choice is without mentioning the crazy plethora of buildings that others have created for you to use! Modding really is the life blood of this city building epic.
While Cities Skylines recently broke the 1 million sales barrier, perhaps more impressivley its really enjoyed a community wide success with a mind blowing 33,000 Mods having been created in just over a month and made available via the Steam Workshop, with an average of 21,000 concurrent players continuously online since launch! Woah! Big numbers indeed!
If you’re looking to jump in and start modding, then theres good news!
Today Colossal Order have announced that they will be running an interactive Twitch TV session on mods, allowing players to discuss everything and anything about modding with the creators of the game themselves!
More than happy to help players develop there skills, Colossal Order will host the ‘How To Mastercalss’ on Twitch at 7pm on Wednesday 27th May! Definitely worth checking out!
