It's fair to say that Far Cry 4 is going to be one of the biggest games of the year, not least of all for Ubisoft and now, it sounds like it might just be that bit bigger, thanks to an original soundtrack created by none other than Cliff Martinez.
Ex Red Hot Chili Pepper and full time composer for films such as "Drive", "Only God Forgives and "Spring Breakers", Cliff has been working with Ubisoft Montreal’s Far Cry 4 Music Designer Jerome Angelot, Music Supervisor Simon Landry, and Audio Director Tony Gronick to create original music, specifically for gameplay.
Work on Far Cry 4 marks the first time Martinez will have worked on a full length video game soundtrack, something he seems extremely happy about.
“It was an honor to be asked to write the music for the Far Cry 4 game as my first full-length video game soundtrack. It was exciting for me to be asked to take my usual minimalistic cinematic approach to the immersive game world. Any game where you can ride on a rampaging elephant is a project you can't turn down!”
According to Tony Gronick, Audio Director on Far Cry 4, working with Martinez was an easy choice.
“Bringing Cliff on board was a no-brainer. Collaborating with him was a dream. He has the remarkable ability to portray compelling emotions and elevate the mundane into extraordinary with his musical talent, Cliff delivered everything I hoped for. I’m so proud of the music in Far Cry 4 and am thankful for the opportunity to work with him.”
Nothing but good news then for the games soundtrack, which will no doubt be truly gorgeous. If you fancy getting your hands on it, so you can experience it on the train, in your garden or where ever you may fancy, The Far Cry 4 Original Game Soundtrack digital edition will be released worldwide on November 4th, while the limited 2 CD edition will release on December 9th. Fore the vinyl lovers out there, don't panic! as a limited 3LP edition will release in January 2015.
If you don't know too much about Far Cry 4, where have you been?!? Well, as you may have guessed, its the next sequel to ubisofts open world fps, with players abandoned on the mountains of Kyrat. A breathtaking, perilous and wild region of the Himalayas struggling under the regime of a despotic self-appointed king, who just so happens to be equal parts hilarious and saddistic.
Far Cry 4 will be hitting the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC on November 18th.
