It's CHRISTMAAAAAAASSSSSSSS!! While we're all sorting out gifts for family members we don't see all year round and sourcing enough food to feed an army, Sony have been busy celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Playstation! Not content with marking the occasion by launching a new gaming event called 'Playstation Experience', at which they announced that Street Fighter V will indeed be a Playstation 'lifetime' exclusive, the brains behind those crazy adverts back in the 90's announced an ultra limited edition of the highly sought after PS4!
The 20th Anniversary edition which is completely decked out to look like its great grandaddy, the original Playstation, is not only a thing of beauty but one of extreme rarity. I'm talking unicorn rare!
Only 12,300 made worldwide in fact!
While North American fans were able to buy the console at the Playstation Experience in Las Vegas, as well as through Sony's online store, the rest of the world was left out in the cold. With Japan and Spain offering models in either a lottery system or only through competitions!
"What about us brits!" I hear you cry? Well, I've got good news and bad news.
Last night Sony released a video from its Access series detailing plans to sell the rare console for a mere £19.94!
All you have to do, is pop down to a (not so) secret pop up shop on London's Bethnal Green road today (December 10th), clutching any piece of original Playstation memorabilia you can spare, from control pads and games to posters and magazines! Then simply utter the secret pass phrase "I CRASHED MY BANDICOOT!" and its all yours!
Now the bad news. only 94 consoles will be available today and it seems the queue was already way beyond that number, a rather terrifying 14 hours before the store is due to open!
The game may not be fully over however as Tomorrow (11th) and Friday (12th) the store will have another 50 to see at the full retail price on a first come first serve basis, and while the queue already looks to have Thursday covered, Friday could still be up for grabs!
While this demand is exceeding levels of crazy, considering the last one to be re sold on eBay went for a rather cool sum of $20,000! It's really no surprise people have gone consumerist crazy!
The Listing which started at $0.99 and received 106 bids from 38 different bidders - eventually concluded at $15,100.00 (that's £9,700,00 for us!). It was live for just a single day and only twice were bids retracted. Phew!
It seems Sony have a license to print money with this one!
If, like myself, you haven't been lucky enough (or crazy enough) to get your hands on this limited collectors item, you'll have to console yourself (See what I did there?) with a nice little gallery of images, showing it off in all its glory!
Note from someone who is bitter: "The white one is better anyway! and it came with Destiny!"
